Hours, services and prices

Hours tell a pet parent whether to call today. Services and starting prices tell them whether to call at all.

Two dashboard pages cover this: Hours and Services. Both count toward the completeness score on your dashboard home, and both show up in the places a pet parent looks before calling.

The quick answer

  • Hours live at Hours: seven rows, Sunday to Saturday, each either closed or open with an opening and closing time. Save at the bottom.
  • Services live at Services: a name (up to 100 characters), a short description (200), a minimum and maximum price, a pet type, and a duration between 15 and 480 minutes.
  • Your listing shows today's hours in the facts strip at the top and the full week under "Plan your visit". Services appear as "Services and starting prices" on the listing page; the search result card shows neither hours nor services.
  • Nothing on these two pages is limited to paid listings.

Hours

Open Hours. Each day has a Closed checkbox; untick it to reveal opening and closing time fields, which start at 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The closing time has to be later than the opening time or the page will not save, and it names the day that is wrong.

A few things about how hours arrive on a new claim:

  • Your listing may already have hours. If Google showed a weekly schedule for your business, our data sweep copied it onto the listing before you claimed it. Those hours stay after you claim; check them and correct anything that changed.
  • If there were none, all seven days start closed. Claiming creates the seven rows so the page is ready to edit; it does not guess at a schedule.
  • After you claim, our sweeps never touch your hours again. Whatever you save is what shows, even if Google says something different.

There is one row per day, so split shifts and "by appointment" are not fields. If you work by appointment only, set the days and the window you take bookings in, and put the detail in your description.

What shows on the listing

The strip of facts near the top of your listing shows today's hours ("Open today 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM" or "Closed today") with a "See all hours" link. "Plan your visit" lower down lists the whole week with today highlighted. The same schedule goes to search engines as structured data, which is how "Open now" style results get their information.

If no day is open, the listing says "Hours aren't listed yet. Call ahead to confirm." Unclaimed listings showing sweep-imported hours carry a small note, "Hours from the business's public listing. Call to confirm before you go." That note disappears once you claim.

The completeness score counts hours as done when at least one day is open.

Services

Open Services and choose Add Service. The form has:

FieldLimitNotes
Service nameRequired, 100 characters"Full groom, small dog" beats "Package A"
Description200 charactersOne line on what is included
Min price / Max priceDollars, cents allowedEither, both, or neither
Pet typeDog, cat, exotic, or allDrives the tabs on your listing
Duration15 to 480 minutesOptional

Each service can be edited or deleted from its row afterwards. Services are listed alphabetically on the dashboard and in the order returned on the listing, so name them consistently ("Bath and brush: small", "Bath and brush: medium") if you want them to read as a set.

How prices are shown

The listing section is called Services and starting prices, and the price label depends on what you filled in:

  • Only a minimum, or only a maximum: from $45.
  • Both, with the maximum higher: range $45 - $85.
  • Both the same: $45.
  • Neither: the service is listed with no price.

Under the list is a fixed note: "Starting prices are for small pets with maintained coats. Size, coat condition and add-ons can change the total; the groomer confirms the quote before work begins." That note is there so you can list a real starting price without it being read as a promise. Use it: a "from" price pulls more calls than no price, and the note protects you.

If you list services for both dogs and cats, the listing shows All / Dog / Cat tabs. With only one of the two, there are no tabs and the pet type appears as a small label where it is not obvious.

Duration shows as "60 min" next to the service when you set it.

On the search result card

The card pet parents see in search results shows your name, town, logo, rating and badge. Hours, services and prices are not on it; they are what the pet parent finds after clicking through, so the card's job is to earn the click and the listing's job is to earn the call.

Checklist

  • Every day you work is unticked from Closed, with the right times
  • Hours that came from Google have been checked against what you actually do
  • At least three services, with names a pet parent would search for
  • A starting price on each service you are willing to quote from
  • Pet type set on every service, so the tabs work
  • Service names are consistent, so they read as a set in alphabetical order

Frequently asked questions

Can I show different hours for mobile appointments and phone hours?

Not as separate schedules. Set the hours you take appointments, and say in your description when you answer the phone. Most mobile groomers set their driving window and note "text anytime" in the description.

Why does my listing still show the old hours after I saved?

Public listing pages are cached for up to a day. Your dashboard is current immediately; the public page catches up within about 24 hours. If it has been longer than that, contact us.

Do I have to list prices?

No. A service with no price is listed by name. Listings with a "from" price tend to get more calls, because pet parents can rule you in before dialling, and the fixed note under the list makes clear that the total depends on the dog.

Can I add a service that is not grooming, like boarding or daycare?

Yes, if you actually offer it. Keep the name plain ("Overnight boarding") and use the description line for what is included. The directory is for grooming businesses, so grooming services should come first.
